Guns Up! ("we," "our," or "us"), respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and safeguard your information when you visit our website https://gunsupwaterfowl.org (the "Site"), or engage with us online.

Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. By using the Site, you agree to the practices described here.

Section 1

Information We Collect

We may collect the following categories of personal information from you:

Identifiers

  • Name, email address, phone number (if you provide it)
  • IP address, device identifiers
  • Information about a nominated veteran — name, service details, and contact information — submitted by you through the Nominate a Veteran form. You confirm you have their permission before submitting.

Internet / Network Activity

  • Pages visited, links clicked, browser type, date/time stamps
  • Bot-protection signals on our forms. We use Cloudflare Turnstile to protect our contact and event forms from automated spam and abuse. Turnstile is a privacy-preserving security service that does not use tracking cookies or sell personal data; it assesses whether a submission is likely human using technical signals (such as browser characteristics and interaction data). It is used only for security and is treated as a strictly necessary function.

Section 2

How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Respond to your inquiry or nomination and follow up with the nominated veteran
  • Coordinate hunts and program logistics
  • Communicate with donors and partners
  • Improve the site
  • Comply with legal obligations

Section 3

How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information for money or other valuable consideration. Under the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), however, certain activities that benefit advertising partners can qualify as sharing personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising — even if no money changes hands.

Categories of recipients

  • Service providers who process information on our behalf under contract — our CRM and messaging platform (GoHighLevel / LeadConnector), which receives form submissions and nominations and stores the contact details you provide, our bot-protection provider (Cloudflare Turnstile), our web host (Hostinger), and Google Analytics via Google Tag Manager, only with your consent
  • Legal recipients when required by court order, subpoena, or to comply with applicable law
  • Business transfer recipients in the event of a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of all or part of our assets

Donations are made through Zeffy or Venmo on their own sites; we never receive your payment details.

We do not knowingly sell or share personal information of consumers under 16 years of age.

Section 4

Data Retention

We retain personal information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, or as required by law. General retention periods:

  • Form submissions and nominations: retained while relevant to the program and up to 24 months after last contact
  • Analytics: per Google Analytics 4 default (14 months)
  • Server logs: 30 days

Where information is no longer needed, we delete it or de-identify it so it can no longer be linked to you.

Section 5

Your Rights Under California Law (CCPA / CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have the following rights:

  • Right to know what personal information we have collected about you, the sources, the purposes, and the categories of third parties with whom we share it
  • Right to delete personal information we have collected from you (subject to legal and operational exceptions)
  • Right to correct inaccurate personal information we maintain about you
  • Right to opt out of sale or sharing of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising
  • Right to limit use of sensitive personal information to that which is necessary to perform the services you requested
  • Right to non-discrimination — we will not deny you services, charge different prices, or provide a different level of quality because you exercised any of these rights
  • Right to data portability — receive a copy of your personal information in a portable format

To exercise any of these rights, see Your Privacy Choices below or email us at caleb@gunsupwaterfowl.org, or use the contact form. We will verify your identity using information we already have on file before fulfilling the request. Authorized agents may submit requests on your behalf with written authorization.

We will respond within 45 days. If we need more time (up to 90 days total), we will notify you in writing with the reason.

Section 6

Your Privacy Choices

You can exercise the following choices at any time, at no cost.

Opt out of sharing for cross-context behavioral advertising

Email us at caleb@gunsupwaterfowl.org with the subject line "Do Not Share My Personal Information" and we will suppress your data from advertising partners within 15 business days.

Global Privacy Control (GPC)

We honor the Global Privacy Control browser signal as a valid opt-out request, consistent with the California Attorney General's 2022 guidance. If your browser or extension transmits a GPC signal, we will automatically suppress ad-related tracking on this site for that browser, without requiring you to email us. Browsers and extensions that support GPC include Brave, DuckDuckGo, and Firefox with the Privacy Badger extension.

Cookies in your browser

You can clear, block, or manage cookies through your browser settings. Note that disabling cookies may degrade some site functionality.

Limit use of sensitive personal information

We do not currently use sensitive personal information (as defined by CPRA) for any purpose beyond providing the services you request. If this ever changes, this section will be updated and you will be given the option to limit such use.

Submitting a verifiable consumer request

For know, delete, correct, or portability requests, email caleb@gunsupwaterfowl.org with the subject "California Privacy Rights Request." Include enough information for us to verify your identity (e.g., the email address or phone number you have used with us).

Section 7

Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to operate the Site and, where consented, measure performance. Specifically:

Strictly necessary

  • Session and security cookies required for the Site to function
  • Form submission and CSRF protection

Analytics

  • Google Analytics 4 via Google Tag Manager — measures aggregate traffic patterns, page performance, and content engagement. Loaded only with your consent, and configured with IP anonymization and standard retention.

How to control them

The first time you visit this site, a small notice asks you to accept or decline non-essential cookies. We use Klaro! — an open-source, self-hosted consent manager that does not itself collect data about your choices. You can change your selection any time by clicking Cookie preferences or by visiting Your Privacy Choices above.

You can also clear and block cookies through your browser settings, or use a browser that supports Global Privacy Control (Brave, DuckDuckGo, Firefox with Privacy Badger) to signal your privacy preference automatically.

Section 8

Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information using administrative, technical, and physical safeguards. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.

Section 9

Children's Privacy

Our Site is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from minors.

Section 10

Third-Party Links

Our Site may contain links to third-party websites. We are not responsible for their privacy practices and encourage you to read their privacy policies.

Section 11

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
